The Shivling in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh belongs to Bhuteshwar Mahadev Temple. It is the world's largest naturally built Shivling, standing at approximately 18 feet high and 20 feet above the ground.
The Department of Revenue measures it annually, noting an increase of 6 to 8 inches each year. Locals believe it grows every year, almost magically. This Shivalinga is located in Maroda village, three kilometers from the main city, surrounded by dense forests.
Several years ago, the story of the exemplary resident Zamindar Shobha Singh. While visiting his farm one evening, Shobha Singh heard a bull and a lion roaring. Initially, he thought it was his cattle, but upon hearing these sounds repeatedly, he informed the villagers.
The villagers too heard the sounds near the mound on several occasions. Despite searching extensively, no animals were found nearby. Hundreds of people visit the temple to pay their respects and offer water yearly, with the number of devotees increasing annually.
The mound was initially small but gradually grew in height and roundness, becoming worshipped as Shivling. In the Chhattisgarhi language, "huhin" sounds are called "Bhakra," hence the name Bhuteshwar Mahadev or Bhakra Mahadev.
